Payouts & fees

Exactly what you receive on a win, for house bets and P2P wagers.

This guide explains exactly what you receive when a contract settles — for both house-book bets (betting against the issuer at odds) and P2P trophy wagers (even-money 1-versus-1 bets against another user).

Part 1 — House-book bet settlement

When a contract resolves, every open house bet settles to one of three states.

If your bet WINS

You receive, in this order:

  1. Your staked cash back — credited to your in-app balance.
  2. Your staked trophies back, in kind — the exact same trophies you put up.
  3. Your winnings (the profit), minus the platform fee — paid as freshly minted trophies.

The platform fee is taken from PROFIT only

profit   = payout − stakeValue          (= stakeValue × (odds − 1))
fee      = floor( profit × protocolFeeBps / 10000 )
winnings = profit − fee

The fee rate (protocolFeeBps) is a live owner setting read at settlement time, expressed in basis points (100 bps = 1%). Your original stake is never touched by the fee — only the profit is.

Winnings are paid in minted trophies

The house pays your winnings by minting trophy denominations, largest first, down to whatever the supply allows. Trophy face values range from $50,000 down to $10. Any remainder smaller than the smallest trophy that can be minted (under $10, or whatever supply is left) is paid as cash to your balance.

Worked example — winning bet

You staked $500 (say $200 cash + one $300 trophy) at 2.50×. The owner's fee is set to 2% (200 bps).

Step Amount
Payout (500 × 2.50) $1,250
Stake value $500
Profit (1,250 − 500) $750
Fee (floor(750 × 200 / 10000)) $15
Winnings (750 − 15) $735

You receive:

  • Your $200 cash back, and your $300 trophy back (in kind).
  • $735 of winnings as minted trophies — e.g. a $500 trophy + a $150 trophy + an $75 trophy + a $10 trophy = $735 exactly (the system fills largest-first against available supply; any sub-$10 leftover would come as cash).

Net result: you keep your original stake and gained $735 in new trophies.

If your bet LOSES

Your entire stake — both the cash and the trophies — is transferred to the house (the contract's issuer). The cash is credited to the issuer's balance; the trophies move into the issuer's case. You get nothing back.

If the contract is CANCELLED (push)

Every bet is fully refunded in kind: your cash is returned and your exact trophies are returned. The bet is marked PUSHED. No fee, no winner, no loser.

Summary table — house bets

Outcome Cash Trophies Winnings Bet status
Win stake returned stake returned in kind profit − fee, as minted trophies (+ sub-$10 cash remainder) WON
Lose goes to issuer go to issuer LOST
Cancel/push refunded refunded in kind PUSHED

Part 2 — P2P Trophy Wagers (even-money 1v1)

Separate from the house book, the /trophies/wagers page lets you bet head-to-head against another user. These are even-money: both sides stake the same total value, and the winner takes the whole pot. There are no odds and no platform fee on wagers.

Opening a challenge

On Trophy wagers → New challenge:

  1. Pick an open contract.
  2. Pick your side (one outcome).
  3. Stake trophies, cash, or both — they stack into one total stake value.

Your stake is locked into escrow immediately (trophies leave your case, cash leaves your balance). The wager shows as OPEN · Waiting for opponent.

You can't open a wager on a contract you issued, on a closed/non-open contract, or (in invite-only mode) on a public contract as a non-admin.

Accepting a challenge

Under Open challenges, anyone (except the opener) can accept:

  1. Pick the opposing outcome (you must take a different side from the opener).
  2. Stake to match the opener's exact total value — the form shows $you / $required and only enables "Take the bet" when they're equal.

Matching is by value, not by item — you can match a $500 trophy with $500 cash, or with two $250 trophies, etc. Once accepted, the wager becomes MATCHED · live.

Worked example — trophy wager

Opener (Alice) Accepter (Bob)
Side Outcome A Outcome B
Stake one $500 trophy $500 cash
Locked value $500 $500
Pot $1,000 of value ($500 trophy + $500 cash)

When the contract resolves to Outcome A, Alice wins the whole pot: she gets her $500 trophy back and Bob's $500 cash. Bob gets nothing. (If it had resolved to B, Bob would take both the cash and the trophy.)

Wager outcomes

Event Result
Resolves to opener's side Opener takes the entire pot (all trophies + all cash from both sides).
Resolves to accepter's side Accepter takes the entire pot.
Resolves to a side nobody took / no winner Push — both sides refunded their own stake.
Contract cancelled Both sides refunded.
Never matched (still OPEN at resolution) The opener is refunded — no stake is ever stranded.
You cancel an unmatched wager Your stake is returned. (Only the opener can cancel, and only while OPEN.)

Wager status badges (My wagers)

  • Waiting for opponent — open, unmatched.
  • Matched · live — both sides locked, awaiting resolution.
  • Won 🏆 — you took the pot.
  • Lost — the other side took the pot.
  • Pushed · refunded — no winner; your stake came back.
  • Cancelled — withdrawn before matching.

Lazy settlement

Matched wagers settle the moment the contract resolves or cancels (the resolution flow settles them in bulk), and are also settled on-demand when you load your wager list — so an up-to-date status is always shown. Settlement is idempotent: you're never paid twice.
