The complete guide

How Rivalizer works

Rivalizer is the fair way to settle a wager between friends. Pose a contract on a real-world event, invite your rivals, and both sides stake equally — winner takes the pot. Private, no house, no rake, every stake and payout settled transparently on-chain.

The lifecycle

From a dare to a settled pot

Every contract moves through the same three stages. No middleman, no house — just you and your rivals.

01

Pose a contract

Pose a question, define the possible outcomes, and write how it settles. Share it privately with the rivals you want in on it.

02

Everyone stakes equally

Each side puts up an equal stake — cash, trophies, or both. Stakes lock in escrow until the result is in. No house, no rake.

03

Resolve & take the pot

When the contract closes, it resolves via the configured method. The winner takes the whole pot on-chain — nothing is skimmed.

Trophies

Win it, flaunt it, do whatever you want with it

Trophies are limited-supply collectibles you own outright. Stake them for bragging rights — and because you own it, it's yours to gift, stake, trade, or cash out.

Bragging rights

Stake trophies on a contract — winner takes the trophy. Yours on-chain for everyone to see.

Gift it

Send a trophy to another player as a gift, with verification so it goes to the right person.

Use as collateral

Back a wager with trophies just like cash — their face value counts toward your stake, and you can combine both.

Trade it

Trade with other players on the secondary market. Scarce trophies can be worth more than face.

Where it happens

People already do this — now it's settled fairly

Anywhere a group says “I bet you…”, Rivalizer turns the dare into a real, escrow-backed contract nobody can weasel out of.

The bar-stool dare

At the stadium

You're at the ballgame and a buddy bets he can chug a beer faster than you. Three others want in on the action. Spin up a private event contract with an invite code, everyone picks a side and stakes, and it auto-settles the second the cans hit the table — no “I'll get you next round.”

The Sunday foursome

On the course

Golf is basically a social contest with grass. Closest to the pin, longest drive, who takes the back nine. Pose private contracts for your group, everyone stakes equally, and tally it all up at the 19th hole instead of arguing over scorecards.

The big game

Watch party

Super Bowl Sunday, NBA Finals, the World Cup. Instead of a vague “$20 says my team wins,” pose a real contract with equal stakes locked in escrow so everyone's honest, and keep it invite-only for the group chat.

Fantasy grudge match

League rivalry

You and your fantasy nemesis both think you'll win this week. Pose a head-to-head, invite-only contract, both put up an equal stake, and let the final score settle the trash talk for you.

The bracket / props pool

Office pool

March Madness brackets, Oscars props, “how many goals this season.” Run a store of contracts your coworkers and followers can join, every stake escrowed and resolved on-chain — no spreadsheet, no chasing people for buy-ins.

Settle the argument

Any claim

“There's no way that startup IPOs this year.” “She totally lands the trick.” If two people disagree and both have conviction, that's a contract. Pose the question, both put up an equal stake, and let the result — not the loudest voice — decide.

The conviction move

Back yourself — no house required

You're not a house. You're just confident, and willing to put money behind it against someone who disagrees.

Sure you know how it plays out? Prove it. Pose the contract, invite the friend who disagrees, and put up an equal stake. No house, no rake — just two people and their conviction, with the winner taking the pot.

Worked example

You're certain your team wins tonight; your friend is just as certain they don't. So you pose a contract, each of you stakes $100, and it locks in escrow. Your team wins → you take the whole $200 pot. No odds to haggle, no cut skimmed, no house — you just backed your call against someone who took the other side.

1

Pose a contract

Pose the question and the outcomes.

2

Invite your rival

Share a private invite with whoever disagrees.

3

Stake equally

Both sides put up the same stake.

4

It locks

Stakes sit in escrow until the result.

5

Take the pot

Right? Winner takes the pot. Settled on-chain.

Contract types

Built for any audience

Run a public store for anyone, a private game among friends, or a branded store you fully control.

Public

Coming soon

Listed in the open feed for anyone to find and take. Available in regions where Rivalizer is licensed; elsewhere the platform runs private-only.

Invite-only

Private

Hidden from discovery and gated by an invite code. Perfect for friend groups, communities, and bespoke event contracts among people who trust each other.

Issuer stores

Branded

Your own storefront with a slug, profile, and reputation. List multiple event contracts under one brand and build a following rivals trust.

Resolution

How contracts resolve

Truth is determined by the most credible method for each contract — never by the issuer alone.

UMA optimistic oracle

Public contracts

Public contracts settle through UMA's optimistic oracle. A proposed outcome is accepted unless disputed within a challenge window, where token-holders vote on the truth. Economically secured and battle-tested.

Judge consensus

m-of-n

Invite-only contracts can appoint a panel of judges. The outcome is finalized once an m-of-n threshold agrees (e.g. 2 of 3), keeping resolution in the hands of people the participants chose.

AI judge fallback

Automated

For contracts with clear, verifiable criteria, an AI judge can evaluate the resolution source and settle automatically — useful as a fast first pass or a fallback when human judges stall.

Platform / admin override

Safety net

As a last resort for stuck, ambiguous, or abusive contracts, platform admins can step in to resolve or cancel. Cancelled contracts refund all stakes.

Economics

Fees & stakes

Simple and transparent: friendly wagers are fee-free and winner-takes-pot. You know exactly what's at stake before you take a contract.

Fees

Private social wagers are fee-free — the winner takes the whole pot and no rake is skimmed. A protocol fee only applies to commercial fixed-odds contracts in licensed regions, and even then it's taken from winnings at claim time, never from your stake — win nothing, pay nothing.

Escrow & equal stakes

In a friendly wager both sides put up an equal stake, locked in escrow by audited smart contracts until the result is in — so the winner is always covered and nobody can weasel out. (Fixed-odds contracts in licensed regions are backed by issuer collateral instead.)

FAQ

Common questions

The essentials, answered.

Rivalizer is built for social contracts between friends — private wagers where everyone puts up equal stakes, nobody takes a cut, the game is private, and the person who set it up doesn't profit as a house. In many places a private, even-stakes wager among friends is treated very differently from commercial gambling (running a book for profit or taking a rake), which is heavily regulated or illegal without a license. That's the distinction Rivalizer is designed around.

It comes down to four things. A friendly social wager: (1) everyone contributes equally, (2) nobody takes a rake, (3) the game is private, and (4) the host doesn't profit — the winner simply takes the pot. Commercial betting is the opposite: a house sets asymmetric odds, takes the other side, and skims a margin to profit regardless of who's right. Rivalizer's social mode enforces the four friendly-wager conditions in software. “Put your money where your mouth is” is about conviction between people — not about running a house.

A friendly wager pays the winner the entire pot — both sides' stakes — with zero fee, and the person who posed the contract is not a counterparty who profits from it.

Rivalizer is non-custodial. Your funds stay in your own wallet and move only when you sign a transaction. Stakes and collateral are held by audited smart contracts during a contract — never by us.

Just an email — sign up and we'll send you a magic link, no password required. To take a contract or pose one you then link a self-custody wallet (such as MetaMask) from your profile, plus some USDC and a little native token for gas.

Yes — contracts settle in USDC, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, so a winning payout is real value you can withdraw. Amounts are denominated in USDC throughout the app.

Odds are shown as decimal odds (e.g. 2.10x) and as an implied probability. Your potential payout is simply your stake multiplied by the odds; the implied probability is one divided by the odds. The issuer sets the opening price, and volume helps it find a fair level.

If your outcome doesn't resolve true, your stake goes to the side that was right — there's nothing to claim. You only ever risk the stake you put down on a contract.

Anyone with an account and a linked wallet. Define your question and outcomes, share it privately with the rivals you want in, and everyone stakes equally — winner takes the pot. There's no house and no rake; the person who posed it is just another player. (Fixed-odds contracts with issuer collateral are available where Rivalizer is licensed.)

A note on eligibility. Rivalizer is designed for private social wagers between people who choose to participate — equal stakes, no rake, no house. Public fixed-odds contracts are only available where we're licensed. Nothing here is legal advice, availability and the rules differ by jurisdiction, and you are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you. See the legal & eligibility guide for details.
